The Ups and Downs of Text Link Ads

Feb 16th, 2011

One of the newest forms of online advertisement has been text link ads. These simple advertisements give several immediate benefits that are obvious to see. First off they are paid ad placed on another webpage that by its nature will draw traffic to your website. The more controversial aspect of text links advertising lately is due to the fact of how Internet search engines rank a website.

How many one way links go to your website has been a key factor in search engine rankings for a long time. It has also been important which sites your links come from, the more authority that website has the more the link is worth. A link from a free website might be worth little to nothing while a link from a major website like hotmail could be worth tons. Here steps in the problem some are having with text link advertisements.

One of the first problems is that small business sites can now buy ads to boost their rating. If the search engines change their policy to block this form of links however it will put a lot of sites out into the cold. If the search engines response to text links is to start to ignore all places that use them it would mean overnight countless websites would lose their authority and become worthless as back links.

As of yet the search engines have difficulty telling the difference between a buying link from an advertisement and an honest hyper link to your website. Added to that those text link ads can be bought on really official websites for a small fee means an easy way to raise your web page’s search rank with fewer links. It is a bit of a grey area right now and likely to change in the future but if you want to rise your site’s ranking quickly text link ads are the way to go.

There are other ways to get one way links quickly (e.g. you can buy text links) but remember to think in the long term. If you have to break rules to get the links to your website, it is probably not worth being banned from life from a website or Internet service over a few links. Remember building up your links may take a while, but website building is a long term game where your sites ranking should grow over time. Getting a thousand links today threw spam will do you no good if they are all gone the next day and your banned from posting there ever again.

The Importance of One Way Links

Feb 16th, 2011

One of the major ways the Internet search engines rank a website is by how many one way links, or back links the website has. Whether you are trying to drive traffic to your business’s website, advertising for someone else, or just really want to have your personal website noticed back links are important. Back links are normal links to your website from other sources and the more credible the source the better. What sets them apart from other links is that your website does not return the favour and point back at that website.

To search engines this makes that link more valid, than say two websites who just exchange traffic. It will raise your websites priority in their engines ranking system of which website gets put on top of a keyword search that your site might qualify for. This can mean the difference between your website being on page two-hundred, or page two. While there are other things that determine page ranking spreading one way links to your website is one of the ones you have the most control over.

A good way to build up links to your website is to write articles, post on blogs, forums and other places of high Internet traffic. You have to be careful and follow all the rules of each website you might post on, some are more picky about posting links than others, but you will find there are several places that allow you to advertise your website on as long as you follow their rules and provide real content. For instant if you go to a handyman message board that talks about home repair and your website deals with home repair you could respond to someone else’s question and while solving their problem mention your website either in the post itself or as part of your post signature.

There are other ways to get one way links quickly but remember to think in the long term.

Online Marketing Takeover

Feb 15th, 2011

Those who used to spend hours in a mall or shopping center now spends minutes browsing for products on the internet. The trend is growing ever faster and taking over the market from physical shopping centers. The only category of stores not so much affected yet is the supermarket for foodstuffs and paper products

Marketing sites such as Amazon now sell just about everything, and if auction allures the consumer, sites such as EBay fill the bill. Why wear out your body and your shoes pounding the pavement to find that particular product you need or want when you can get to a specific article, right down to a specific model number or any other parameter you want to set, with a few keystrokes? Comparison sites such as BizRate can even tell the consumer where to find the best price

I absolutely love online marketing and can tell you about one recent experience. I found the exact vent less gas heater I wanted on one site. That particular site had a price match guarantee and free shipping. Their price was in the range of $500. Then I went to a comparison site and found the same unit in the range of $260 but with shipping costs extra. I went to the original site and went through the steps they specified for them to honour their price match guarantee and got the unit for the $260 range and free shipping. Once I accomplished that, I found a plumber from another online source, Craig’s List, to do the installation (including the materials needed) for the $250 range. The result was that the entire project including shipping, materials and installation labour cost me just about the same as the price of the unit alone at the first site I shopped. And all of this was accomplished without setting foot out of the house in 2-1/2 feet of snow!

Needless to say at this point, I am forever an advocate of online marketing.
